They stop installing DSL at a certain mile radius because the speed starts to drop off dramatically. In my case to use the Sprint Connect box the Airave would be required. If my internet went down then there goes the Airave then down goes the Sprint Connect. Kind of pointless as I should just use VoIP anyways and get rid of the middle man/box.
Several seconds after you stop dialing, you hear ringing. When someone calls your phone, it will ring about 5 times before going to Sprint voice mail . The device operates almost exactly like a traditional “landline” without relying on any type of “landline” or internet service. I plan to setup all of our HPC2 devices under a single Ting.com account.

So I've had to use the toll-free numbers, which costs my company money to dial those instead of using free long distance. Then, more recently, we've got a farm with a small shed not far from where we live. They told me I could get DSL there so I've been fixing up the shed to use as an office.
I can't get high speed internet through Time Warner or CenturyLink at home so the Sprint broadband card and my AT&T wif-fi hotspot are my only options. And as soon as Sprint gives me 4G here and those new Tri-Band hotspots are out I'll be dropping that AT&T hotspot. I setup the Verizon one for a family member of mine and he loves it. It is much louder than his old landline that seemed to go down once a week. With its larger external antenna I had no issue getting the 3 out of 3 bars with it inside his home even though I had a -95dbm signal of roaming VZW signal.
Home Phone Connect & Migrating to TMobile
If you want fax, there is Internet fax, or Vonage if you have a high speed Internet connection. Does anyone know how long the battery will last in a power outage? How is the voice quality compared to a landline? I work from home so I need something that will hold onto calls well. Actually, that's exactly what I'm going to do. I pay for my parents phone connect plan and they've been holding on to the house line for the longest.

The Sprint Home Phone Connect 2 is designed to be a replacement for existing residential or business “landline” phone service. You can connect up to two existing telephone handsets to the two ports on the back of the HPC2 . The phone calls are carried over the Sprint wireless network instead of traditional landlines. When you pickup your phone, you immediately hear a dial tone and can begin dialing a 7 or 10 digit phone number.

By an upstairs window our mobile broadband card works fine so I would assume the phone modem would work ok. I don't like that it can't handle fax traffic, but I think in the last 5 years I've used the fax maybe 2 times so it's not a showstopper for me. I logged into my account at Ting.com and navigated to the devices page. I clicked the “activate” link next to the HPC2. During activation, the Ting website gave me the option to port my existing phone number to the HPC2 or setup a new phone number in my area code.
I also received an email with my new phone number. The data charge and the lack of Caller ID name are the only surprises I have found. I have read that the SHPC2 does not support fax machines, credit card terminals, or alarm systems. It is not clear if those devices will not work at all or if that just means Sprint/Ting will not provide support if you have trouble with those devices. Those don’t affect me, but may affect some other users.

As a result of the T-Mobile merger with Sprint, T-Mobile is offering Sprint customers to switch handsets over to the T-Mobile Network by switching the SIM card. T-Mobile is actively stripping Sprint's network resources and should give you a better experience using the cellular network on your phone. My mom currently has 3 lines with Sprint, one of them being a Home Phone Connect. After reading of the 3g shut down, I began the process of moving her home phone service to a similar offering from Consumer Cellular.
I do also see firms like T-Mobile using it around sites so the bulk of the 2.5Mhz spectrum is not siphoned off by close-in users. I also see the build-out requirements on some mmWave ultimately pushing them to use it around busy freeway interchanges like they have done in Seattle. Of course physics being as they may, 12/13Mhz may be even better. Not only 3 months free, but also $100 off a smartphone if you buy a PhoneConnect in the same transaction.
Now after I've spent money setting things up and was about to turn power on, I called CenturyLink back again to have them setup DSL and they're telling me it's not available. Still waiting for a manager to call me back but I doubt anything will come of it. Why not just switch all of her lines over to Consumer Cellular? Three lines on their unlimited plan would be $90/month, or $85.50/month with AARP. They use T-Mobile or AT&T’s network, so her phones would be fully compatible. I recently purchased a SHPC2 for use with Ting.com.
She's traveling to see me, and our goal is to get her other 2 lines converted fully to a TMobile 55+ plan. Unfortunately the Consumer Cellular box is arriving after she's here, but we still want to switch to TMobile.
